Notes from a month of walking without headphones
For one month, I left my headphones at home whenever I went for a walk.
The first few days felt oddly unfinished. Then the city began to return: the soft rhythm of shutters opening, fragments of conversation at a coffee cart, and the brief quiet after rain.
Attention has texture
Removing a familiar layer of input did not make the walks empty. It made them specific. Boredom was not a problem to solve; it was the doorway back into the place I was already in.
I still love music. I just no longer want it to erase every unplanned moment.
